The Blackfeet Nation

Postby michael » Sun Mar 07, 2010 11:32 pm

I thought this was an interesting idea put forth by the leadership of the Blackfeet Nation on their web page:

"We were great before, perhaps the greatest of all tribes if greatness is measured by being complete masters of a huge and hostile domain. And we absolutely believe our true greatness is still yet to come."

I wonder how many tribes aren't awestruck by their pasts and instead see themselves as being even greater sometime in the future?

I went and read his entire message. I don't know much about the Blackfeet Nation's past in a historical sense or their more recent events but I thought it was a strong uplifting message. I don't know what standards other tribes or even what the CNO holds for itself but I for one would hope for purity of action, unselfishness, honesty and love of it's people as standards of greatness.

I think it's awesome that they completely turn around the old idea of the vanishing race and say that they will be greater in the future. That's a powerfully hopeful idea.

From reading his message it sounded like they were recovering from some recent issues within their tribal governance as well...
